Amy & Caleb

Intimate PNW Couples Session

How often do you have memories that just stick with you? This Intimate Lakeside couples session is definitely one that will forever live with me. Not only because Amy & Caleb are some of the sweetest and kindest humans you’d ever meet, but mainly because of how patient and willing these two are two be in front of my camera, testing out gear and I actually didn’t know whether or not it was working.

Down for anything

If you’re confused about what I mean, back in 2019, I purchased a used film camera from the 90s, and just like any other film camera, you have to set up a session and test it out if it works, if the shutter speeds are correct, does it have any light leaks? Well, this is the session that got me familiar with the camera and I’m so lucky to have friends like Amy & Caleb to be down for anything and have fun with it.

Now before we get too technical about photography, I just have to say that shooting on film has been one of the best things that happened for my business & creativity. See, while cameras are so advanced now and they can practically shoot for you (If you’re a photographer reading this, we can chat about this in the FB community) - sometimes, you need to strip away all this fanciness and bring things back to basics to appreciate what this whole thing is about.

Experience over everything

The 30-year-old camera of choice is a Leica M7, which is why I was so nervous about it not working. It was such an investment that with less money, could’ve bought a way fancier and technological camera, but just like with any session or elopement that I photograph, I wasn’t looking for something that’s quick and easy. I was after an experience - something with so much more character.

Quality Over Quantity

As for this intimate couples session in the PNW, the flow of shooting one full roll (36 exposures) was completely different than what I’m used to. There was no reviewing the photos right away or taking the time to shoot a variety to get the perfect one. With film, it is what it is - and that’s the beauty in it. You really don’t need a million photos to find the perfect shot. Amy and Caleb really enjoyed taking their time and not worry about the flow of the session, making it a fun experience without the added pressure of perfecting those moments, but their experience of being in the moment together.

To Amy & Caleb - the sweetest couple - Thank you for going along with all of this and trusting the process. Even when I wasn’t sure any of these intimate photos will turn out. It was so fun hanging out with these two and I’ll forever be thankful that you agreed to go along with all of it!! Now every time I use my Leica M7 on a couples session, there’s always a moment where I remember how fun this day was!!
