What is an Elopement or an Intimate Wedding?
A little back story:
In 2018, my wife and I got married & It was the perfect intimate wedding surrounded by our closest friends and family. We knew we wanted to get married in an epic location and also in a location that is significant to our relationship, and more importantly, celebrate what’s most meaningful to us; intimacy, love, and creating experiences together. Having an intimate wedding gave us insight into how to create a day focused on the things that matter so that we could enjoy and cherish each moment to make the day our own.

Why Elope in Iceland?
Known as the land of fire and ice (because of the country’s glaciers and volcanoes), Iceland is one of the most incredible places for a destination elopement! Not only does it have dramatic landscapes that will have your jaw on the floor, but it is also one of the most sparsely populated countries, meaning you’ll get to elope in complete privacy no matter what location you choose!
If you think Iceland is one massive ice block, think again. This European island is actually filled with tons of incredible landscapes from black sand beaches to cascading waterfalls to glacial lakes and (depending on the time of year you visit) the iconic Northern Lights! While there are many amazing places to get married in Iceland a few of my favorite areas are Vik, Arnarstapi, Jökuldalsvegur, as well as tons of other unmarked locations.
Eloping in Iceland is the perfect place for couples who want to get off the grid and have an elopement in a secluded location while also getting to have the ultimate adventure experience!
Fun Ideas to Consider for Your Destination Wedding in Iceland
Planning a destination wedding allows for so many options to include in your elopement. Whether you are getting married at a place you’ve been before or somewhere entirely new, getting married abroad allows you to create a day that is filled with adventure and incredible experiences.
Some fun ideas to include on your wedding day or during your post-wedding session are a relaxing day at a Geothermal spa complete with a dip in the Blue Lagoon, exploring Ice Caves, Lava Caves, or wandering around one of Iceland’s many glaciers, and chasing the Northern Lights.
These are just a few ideas that you can include in your Iceland elopement. Meet your Iceland Elopement Photographer
I’m Will - Intimate wedding and elopement photographer based out of Northern California and I love the heck out of being a wedding photographer! I’ve been taking photos for as long as I can remember, but what you really need to know is that what I do has nothing to do with me and EVERYTHING to do with you.
There is nothing that I love more than capturing moments that matter and being part of an experience that’s so memorable! Whether it’s being on the side of a mountain, hiking under redwoods, taking a dip in the ocean or whatever you dream of for your wedding day, I am there with my camera ready to capture the heck out of your day!
As your photographer, my role is so much more than just someone with a camera who shows up to your wedding day. I mean where’s the connection in that? The short answer? Absolutely! The long answer? Elopements aren’t just for the couple and they can absolutely include a handful of guests. How many guests you choose to invite though will determine whether or not you need to plan for an intimate wedding or elopement. While these two events have many similarities, there are a few different details you may need to consider for each one. Yes, in Iceland, you will need an officiant to get married. As there are several local requirements couples must first complete prior to getting married, it can help to hire a local wedding planner, especially for non-local couples. A good planner will not only be able to help bring your wedding dreams to life, but they’ll also be able to help translate and guide you through the necessary steps to make your marriage official. Another option to consider is to complete your paperwork in your home state/country and save your personal vows for your elopement day. This can help simply the process while still allowing you to save the special moment for your “actual” wedding day.
